Sheikh Berhanu Ahmeddin (1908-1973)
He was born in Asmara. He was elected in the 1st and the 2nd Eritrean Assembly of 1952 and 1956. He survived three assassination attempts on his life by the Unionist thugs. He is the father of Dr. Yusuf Berhanu, a prominent politician and the current Chairman of the ENCDC. It is narrated that in one of the assassination attempts, a hand grenade was thrown while his son Yusuf was playing near him outside their house. He jumped over and covered his son, who was saved while Berhanu sustained injuries.
