One of the earliest activists for Eritrean liberation. Hajji Musa started out as urban activist, hosting “Fedayeen” fighters on recon and military missions in Asmara. In his later years, Hajji Musa Mohammed Nur, was the Board President of Al Dia Islamic School in Asmara. He was arrested on October 27, 2017, shortly after a video surfaced of him chairing a meeting of parents and students where he expressed his views that he had no intention of surrendering the school to the government and, if it intends to confiscate the school, it would have to do it over his dead body. His arrest caused the residents of a small dense community in Asmara, Akhriya, to demonstrate publically in what is termed now as “Akhriya upraising”. This brave act by the population, shock the cruel regime and many arrests were made of young and old, women and men. Many are still languishing in prison to this day. Al Diaa was established in the late 1960s, and is run by parent committees as a private Islamic school. Transferring control to local communities would mean religious schools such as Al Diaa would become nondenominational. Hajji Musa died in prison on March 1, 2018. May Allah bless his soul. He lived a dignified life and died fighting injustice.
